Boxing Day Pursuit Race.
11 Brave souls gathered to take part in this years boxing day pursuit race. Brave because it was damp cold and dark. The forecast wind of 9 knots gusting to 15 knots was just not there.
Spirits were not dampened and even though the launch vehicle broke down the race officer and safety boat was launched successfully.
With the safety boat on the water everyone else set about launching their craft
John was caught inspecting his bottom……..either that or he was getting some early practice for the capsize trophy. Nice one John!
When the racing got underway the wind was light and cyclonic and Evan in his Topper was first away followed by Les in a Feva.
They were quickly followed by Pete in his Solution, Llion in his Laser Radial, Rosy and Ceri in the 2000, the two Farrells Eddie and Ed in the RS Aero’s, John Brown in the supernova and finally bringing up the rear Rich and Carl in the Scorpion.
As the race progressed the wind became less fickle, built steadily and the sun came out. At the end of the 90 minute race most of the boats were closing on the front boats. Final positions were as follows:-
1st Llion Morris (Laser Radial)
2nd John Brown (Supernova)
3rd Eddie Farrell Jnr (RS Aero)
4th Rich and Carl Jones (Scorpion)
5th Rosy Hearn and Ceri Roberts (2000)
6th Pete Fisk (Solution)
7th Ed Farrell Snr(RS Aero)
8th Les Thomas (Feva)
9th Evan Thomas(Topper)
A great big festive thank you to Gareth and Jonathan for being race officer/safety and thank you to all who took part in the event and making it a very enjoyable days sail.
Looking forward to seeing you all in 2022 on the water.
Carl.
All the best for the new year.
