A Change of Pace
On Sunday 10th of July the club held the first of its cruise events. The weather gods must have looked favourably at the event as there was a nice gentle breeze and plentiful sunshine.
In the dinghy park there was a bit of a buzz going on as everone got their boats ready. Some of the club boats needed some last minute minor repairs and everyone mucked in to help. All were ready to launch on time and picnics given to the safety crew for safe keeping.
The journey to Rhos was really interesting. Going at a leisurely speed there was time to take in the beauty of the little Orme, Angel Bay and much more. The wildlife was fabulous with seals popping up all around and sea birds a plenty and how do the sheep not fall off those bits of grass on the cliff edge. Even the jelly fish looked stunning and very colourful.
As the boats boats came into Rhos bay they rounded the Rhosneigr Bouy, which interestingly marks a wreck of a sunken paddle steamer which sank 20th July 1908. Full story can be found at https://historypoints.org/index.php?page=wreck-of-steamer-rhosneigr-rhos-on-sea and then on to Penrhyn Bay beach for lunch.
After lunch it was another gentle sail back to the club though it was a bit quicker as the breeze had picked up just that little bit.
All in all a very pleasant break from the racing that everyone felt we should do again. A big thanks to the Les Ridley and Les Thomas for keeping us and the picnic lunches safe.
