Llandudno Juniors join RS Tera Northern Squad for Winter Training
This year my brother Kevin and I were delighted to join the RS Tera squad in the North of England for a series of six winter training weekends. Training took place at Derwent Reservoir, Ripon Sailing Club and Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club. Being part of the squad meant that we had the opportunity to train throughout the winter and had the benefit of learning in a large fleet of 20 Teras.
We endured freezing cold temperatures, high winds, no wind, and even a frozen lake but very little deterred the coaches, Brett and Bernard from getting us out on the water. The weekend agenda typically included drills on land as well as in the water, classroom theory and then racing practice. The coaches used a camera and recorded a lot of the races and drills and we went over them as a group afterwards.
It has been a great way to start my first season in the larger PRO sail and I have learned lots while having fun at the same time. We are both looking forward to a season of club racing off the new slipway along with Tera Class competitions. One of the real benefits of being part of a squad is the extra support you get at large events and we will be part of the Northern Tera Squad competing at the RS Tera Worlds in Holland in July.
